Alan Turing may recieve official apology

August18

petition on the 10 Downing Street website calling for an official apology from the Prime Minster for the “prosecution of Alan Turing that led to his untimely death” has already attracted 2,200 signatures.

WWII crypto analyst and computer pioneer Alan Turing was persecuted into commiting suicide by the British government. It’s a real tragedy that a man of such brilliance and who did so much to change the tide of WWII in the favour of the UK was given such shameful treatment after the war – simply because he was gay.

Whereas I feel it is important that the British establishment owns up to it’s dark past, the damage is already done. Something like this should never have happened in a democracy in the first place.

P.S: A rather lame apology has been given by PM Gordon Brown
